Thanks Chris. In 2006 I had the opportunity to do some training with their marketing team and I was impressed by the talent and thinking. Unfortunately, I was also saddened by the lack of power to really move the organization. Over time, the short-sighted thinking drove off many of their best people. I think they always saw the marketing department as the people who cranked out tactics rather than people with good ideas for the brand.

It doesn't help to have good people if you marginalize them.

As someone who worked there briefly between agency gigs (and during the days of Divx and Carmax no less), I can attest to the fact that they really didn't have a clue when it came to marketing. In the last few years, I thought they managed to do a nice job with their site, but the store experience was a total disconnect. As such, I'd use CC.com to research, then go make a purchase at Best Buy.
